Five years ago, the Community Messengers program was introduced in Danbury to prepare “trained advocates who share important information within their neighborhoods.” Last night our Cora’s Kids team gathered to celebrate the completion of its seventh cohort, adding twenty-nine graduates to the growing network.

Thank you for the opportunity to testify in support of Senate Bill No. 1216 “An Act Concerning Funding for Student Meals.” As President of United Way of Western CT and President of Stamford Cradle to Career, we are submitting written testimony in support of no-cost school meals for all, which promotes the academic success ofConnecticut’s students and provides tangible, financial relief to Connecticut families.

For the second year in a row, United Way of Western Connecticut and its network of Cora’s Kids child care providers hosted one of seven #MorningWithoutChildCare rallies across the state. Elected officials, child care providers, and supporters gathered outside of the Danbury Public Library on March 8th in support of the movement led by Child Care for Connecticut’s Future, which is working to shine a light on the importance of affordable, quality child care.
