The latest ALICE in Focus: Financial Hardship Among People with Disabilities Report dives in to the impacts that traditional economic measures have on the 12% of people in Connecticut (403,194) who have a cognitive, hearing, vision, or ambulatory disability, or one that makes self-care or independent living difficult.

For more than 30 years, we’ve supported students in Danbury and Greater New Milford through our Back-to-School Program. We want to ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed in school by providing them with essential school supplies. Can’t attend in person? No worries, in addition to the in-person event we will continue to offer virtual, non-competitive participation. 

The Age Well Community Council, in collaboration with United Way of Western Connecticut, held a webinar for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, 2022. The online event focused on how to identify, prevent, and address the financial exploitation of older adults throughout Western Connecticut. Panelists included Lara Stauning, Esq., Co-Chair at Elder Justice Coalition; Kevin Brophy, Esq., Managing Attorney at Connecticut Legal Services, Inc.; Byron Peterson, Connecticut AARP Fraud Watch Volunteer; and  moderator Judge Dianne Yamin, Co -Chair of the Age Well Community Council. 

United Way of Western Connecticut has officially announced the addition of four new members to our Board of Directors. Doreen Bentson, Luis Diez, Dr. Michael Stern, and Katherine Webster-O’Keefe will assume their roles on the board through 2025. They are the latest addition to the group of local community leaders who work together to support the organization while providing expertise and perspective on a regional level.

United Way of Western Connecticut is thrilled to announce that two members of our team, Ashley Gaudiano and Elizabeth Quiñonez, have been selected as honorees for Fairfield County’s 40 under 40 by Fairfield County Business Journal. Ashley Gaudiano, Vice President of Resource Development and Marketing, and Elizabeth Quiñonez, Early Child Care Initiative Director, will be recognized for their accomplishments at an event on June 16, 2022 in Stamford alongside fellow changemakers from our region. 

United Way of Western Connecticut has announced the names of two Stamford High School Students as the recipients of the Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship for 2022. Breana Chery and Dante Ayars, both students at the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering in Stamford, were selected by the Heart of Gold Scholarship Committee as this year's recipients.
