Connecticut Issues $300 Grocery Benefit To State Residents Who Lost SNAP
Connecticut residents who have lost SNAP due to rule changes are eligible to receive a one-time $300 grocery benefit issued as a prepaid virtual grocery card. The benefit is available through an online app and will not be loaded to existing EBT cards.
People who received a DSS notice stating they do not meet the Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD) requirements since December 1, 2025, and are no longer receiving SNAP qualify for the benefit. The benefit is available to each affected individual in a household. Individuals wishing to receive the benefit, should contact their local community action agency to learn more. Applications may be able to be completed either by email or in person. Locate your local agency by visiting www.cafca.org/agencies.
Stay Updated on HR – 1 Impacts in CT
Stay up to date on HR1 and its impacts on SNAP and Medicaid (HUSKY) through the Department of Social Services' (DSS) webpage: portal.ct.gov/dss-hr1. DSS will post important information for community partners and individuals who receive benefits on this page.
The new law changes some public benefit programs that DSS oversees, including SNAP and HUSKY Health (Medicaid). These changes may affect how people get benefits, who can qualify, or how the programs are funded. If you receive SNAP or HUSKY and the law affects your benefits, DSS will send you a notice. Notices will include next steps, dates, and anything you need to do. You do not need to act until you receive information directly from DSS. Learn More.
