With SNAP uncertainty and rising food costs, food insecurity is rising across Connecticut.
All CT-residents enrolled in SNAP prior to November 1 should have received their November SNAP funds.
Despite this, there is long-term uncertainty about December benefits and beyond.
Earlier this year, Congress passed HR 1. The legislation included changes to SNAP that made it harder for many households to qualify for SNAP and reduced or eliminated benefits for others. Even with some benefits restored in the short term, tens of thousands of families, older adults, and caregivers across our state are still at risk of seeing reductions or losing support altogether.
This is why we launched Share the Table Connecticut, a rapid response food drive and fundraiser to help ensure every family in our region can put food on the table this holiday season. Below you'll find information how to GIVE HELP and GET HELP.
Collect Food
- Host a small food drive with neighbors, co-workers, or a community group.
- We will connect you with the pantry in your town.
- We will provide a simple toolkit with flyers, social posts, and a list of most needed items.
- No complicated planning. Just neighbors helping neighbors.
Support the ALICE Fund
If you would like to help individuals and families who have lost, or have had reductions, in their SNAP benefits, please consider a gift to the ALICE Fund.
This month, the ALICE Fund will provide direct cash assistance for food purchasing as supplemental assistance to individuals and families enrolled in SNAP. Individuals will receive $100 and families will receive $250 on pre-loaded debit cards, designated specifically for purchasing food. It is critical that recipients are able to shop based on their transportation options, work schedules, and family responsibilities. This approach offers not only flexibility, but also dignity, allowing people to make choices that work best for their lives.
Working with local non-profit partners and local municipal agencies who screen and refer individuals, we will deploy these dollars quickly to neighbors who are SNAP enrolled but are struggling to get by.
The need is urgent, and your support will make a critical difference now. To make a donation to the ALICE Fund, please use the form below or click here.
